Get help from money experts in city this month
MONEY experts are coming together in York to organise events this month to tackle poverty and help people to manage their cash.
‘Challenge Poverty, Talk Money Month’ will see two national campaigns collaborate to set up weekly talks and workshops for York residents worried about their finances.
Weekly talks will include managing your budget, staying on top of bills and payments, how to cut your costs and building up savings.
Councillor Nigel Ayre, executive member for finance and performance at City of York Council, said that with energy bills increasing and food prices rising, this winter would be a “particularly challenging time for many” and a “daunting task” as support schemes ended.
The month of action aims to leave residents feeling more confident about managing their money and informed as to where financial support is available.
Organisations taking part - which will offer support with debt and how to find the best deals on gas, electricity and internet bills - include: Older Citizens Advocacy York, York Energy Advice, Stop Loan Sharks and Community First Credit Union.
